It was based on a similar sonic material to that in the installation.

The live performance, made possible by a double ISDN link, was performed in front of an audience and recorded live to air by ABC Classic FM radio station. The audience sat under the sonic bridge, with the sounds from Australia in front and those from Frankfurt behind. The whispering duet in particular was an instant dialogue across the world. It was broadcast around Australia on the ABC’s Listening Room and subsequently exhibited on the World Wide Web on the ABC Classic FM Listening Room site, as a forty-minute real audio sound file.

(...) It is at once a continuous sound installation, a real-time international radio work and a website. The piece ended in December 1997 with a live performance by the two artists at the Moltkerei Gallery in Cologne. Each part of this work involves a different spatial design – the web audio documentation, interactive installation, global performance via double ISDN link and the final live performance; together, each part fed into the others, forming a shifting counterpoint of their own. The work as a whole existed as a massive free music machine, emanating from the inner sanctum of Percy Grainger’s world, and it is dedicated to him.“

*Melbourne*: Mikrotonales Butterfly-Piano, Marimbas, automatische free music Maschinen, mehrkanalige Klanginstallation, Stimme, Flöten, O-Ton Aufnahmen
*Frankfurt*: Stimme, Monochord, Steine, Klangschale, indische Glocken
